What have I been watching?: Rick and Morty
What have I been listening to?: Blackout - Breathe Carolina
I have less than two months until I graduate law school. I am finishing my time in law school on a positive, high note. I will likely dedicate a post to this topic at a later date, but for now I will just say that there were times in 1L that I thought I had fucked up my life by moving from River Falls and my UWRF friends to Ohio for law school. I am glad to say that eventually things turned around, I got through the worst of it and have had so many achievements and successes that I could never have contemplated.
For now, I want to dedicate this post to things that I will miss about living in Cleveland during this time of my life. My New Yorker roommate and I constantly poke fun at Cleveland and Ohio in general, but the truth of the matter is that there are some things I have come to be fond of about being here. Here are some of the things I've enjoyed here and will miss:
- Dinners at Tommy's in Coventry with Clare. Tommy's is an awesome restaurant for vegetarians and vegans. My go-to meal is a toasted tempeh sandwich with spinach and cheese and mustard, pickle on the side, and Tommy's fries. Yesterday I picked up our dinner from Tommy's curbside and brought it back home so Clare and I could eat it on my bedroom floor while watching Survivor.
- Edgewater! One of my favorite things from last summer was spending hours and hours at Edgewater by myself. Occasionally I would go with friends, but I really enjoyed being able to just go by myself at the drop of a hat to lay out, listen to music, and people watch. However, on one of my last visits to Edgewater of last summer, I had the unfortunate experience of having my first bee sting. A bee stung me in the back, like a coward. It really, really hurt. I had swung my back over my shoulder to get ready to leave, and I think I accidentally caught the bee against my back because that's when I felt the hot intense sting. At first I wondered if I had accidentally pressed one of my keys (hot from laying into the sun) into my back, but it hurt way too much for that.
- Being able to visit the Cleveland Museum of Art. The CMA is literally across the street from the law school. Despite that, it took me over a year to finally get over there and go through the galleries. They have so many incredible pieces from famous artists including Rembrant, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, and more. My favorite has always been the portraits, the more realistic the better. It's just wild to stand there in front of a portrait and realize that this was a real person from several hundred years ago, who sat for hours on end for this portrait, and to know that they must have been quite wealthy in order to be in the position to have their portrait painted.
- Good Night John Boy. John Boy is a disco bar and club in the Flats. It is one of my favorite places in Cleveland. I have always loved disco so much, and I have such a fun time at John Boy. The floor is lit up with colored panels, disco balls glitter in the air, and the place is like 70s themed. You hear ABBA, Earth Wind & Fire, Whitney Houston, all the hits from that era. I absolutely love it and am not sure I will be able to find a proper replacement in Milwaukee.
- It has been nice being able to essentially lift my bike down a few stairs and jet right off from there on a ride. Granted, I have not found Cleveland to be a particularly bike-friendly city. On more than one occasion I have been yelled at and genuinely frightened by motorists leaning out their windows (for what reason? Unclear. I was either in established bike lanes or in the road where the signs read that I could be there).
- Enjoying the Little Italy bakeries. We go to Presti's at least once every couple of weeks. I always get sundried tomato tortellini and, if available, an almond bearclaw. They have a full deli case full of pastas and various things, and even more pastries and desserts. It can be, at times, an overwhelmingly busy place. The last time we were there, I was getting anxious and overwhelmed by how many people were in such close proximity to us.
- My tennis routine! Starting last summer, I found a couple of folks from school to play tennis with pretty regularly. We played so much last summer, probably at least every couple of days. I got very nicely tanned from it lol.
- Luna Bakery and Cafe! Luna is in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood. They make fresh crepes right in front of your eyes (along with paninis, breakfast burritos, various pastries, etc.) Awesome brunch place that we have enjoyed numerous times.
One of my favorite pieces at CMA
